CE Marking: machines that comply with the requirements of the Machinery Directive
Needless to say, safety and sustainability are a high priority for Venrooy Cable Equipment. The machines we manufacture are provided with the mandatory CE Marking. This guarantees that they comply with the fundamental European requirements concerning the user's health, safety and environment. To be permitted to label the machines with CE Marking, they must comply with the Machinery Directive. In other words, a machine cannot be labelled with the CE Marking without justification. The Machinery Directive is a European guideline that contains a large number of health and safety requirements. Examples that come to mind include the following:
  • No jamming hazard
  • No cutting hazard
  • No electric shock hazard
  • No hearing loss hazard
  • Ergonomically responsible operation
  • Provision of clear information

However, over the years a large number of European standards has been developed that can be applied for this purpose. By complying with these standards it is easy to demonstrate that the requirements of the Machinery Directive are met. These requirements can be checked on the basis of a checklist. Failure to comply with the guidelines can result in sanctions; for example, a fine or even the machine's removal from the market.

Safety Risk Analysis

A safety risk analysis must be completed to be able to comply with the Machinery Directive. This includes a review of the risks involved in making use of the machine (and any potential incorrect use), assembly, maintenance, service, transport, etc. It includes, but is not necessarily limited to, an assessment of the following:
  • Mechanical hazards (for example, moving parts, sharp corners, rotating parts)
  • Noise (possibility of hearing loss due to excessive noise)
  • Thermal hazards (for example, hot parts)
  • Ergonomic hazards (for example, improper posture, repeated exertion, hindrance due to personal protective equipment)
  • Availability of safety equipment (for example, emergency stop and protective covers)
  • Other hazards (for example, due to electricity, hydraulic and pneumatic parts)

Provision of information

The Machinery Directive obliges the machine's manufacturer to supply a user manual with the machine. In case of Venrooy Cable Equipment, this manual must be in Dutch (and where necessary in English or German as well). In addition, properly understandable indicators and/or warnings must be clearly visible on the machine, preferably through means of symbols or pictograms, including the CE Marking. Furthermore, the machine's supplier must prepare a technical construction file. This file must demonstrate that all of the directive's requirements are met. In addition, a Declaration of Conformity must be supplied with every machine.
